The digital revolution, geopolitical disruptions, and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence are prompting a re-evaluation of the university's societal role. Universities today find themselves at a crossroads. The central question of our time is what role they will assume in the near future. As the world evolves, we must adapt accordingly while maintaining the core principles of our mission, managing this tension and proposing new scenarios for the future.

My vision is to create the Vytautas Magnus University of the future, which will serve not only as an institution for knowledge transfer but also as an epicentre for developing free and noble individuals, cultivating authentic thought, and promoting progress through principles of goodwill. It is a university that cares for its community members, fosters science, creativity, and innovation, and strives to make a positive impact on society.

With a strong and motivated team, I will achieve the goals that are essential for the University.

My priorities:

A Responsible Community:
  • I will promote the community’s solidarity, responsibility, and openness by involving all community members in transparent and sustainable university governance and decision-making. I will implement an inclusive governance model based on the principles of a horizontal structure. We will make key decisions collaboratively, including all community members – students, alumni, faculty, administration, and close social partners.

  • The autonomy and responsibility of faculties will be clearly defined in consultation with the community. The elections of faculty deans and department heads will be transparent and democratic: faculty deans should be elected by their respective faculty communities, and the positions of department heads should be recognized as administrative.

  • I will engage students in university governance, giving them more opportunities to express their opinions and participate in decision-making.

  • I will ensure stability in faculty workloads by establishing a transparent methodology. I will safeguard conditions for continuous professional development and consultations for teachers.

  • I will improve working conditions for all and create a clear career system for non-academic staff, including transparent evaluation criteria, learning and development opportunities, and consultations.

  • I will increase focus on the psychological well-being of staff and students by expanding the availability of psychological services and providing training and counselling.

Open Studies:
  • To ensure that studies are flexible, individualized, and focused on future competencies, I will encourage academic units to improve study programs, adopt innovative teaching methods, and integrate artificial intelligence with consideration for ethical solutions and data security.

  • I will encourage the development of interdisciplinary education based on the principles of artes liberales

  • I will expand international study opportunities, promote talent attraction, and motivate student mobility by introducing international double and joint degrees and other international programs at different levels of study.

  • I will actively encourage student involvement in scientific research to develop their practical skills through placement in projects and by providing opportunities to work in interdisciplinary teams.

  • I will strive to implement lifelong learning by offering various study forms that appeal to diverse groups and needs, including micro-modules.

Impactful Science:
  • I will urge the expansion of interdisciplinary research and the fostering of collaboration among scientists from various fields to establish competitive research centres that match the quality level of European institutions.

  • I will encourage more active involvement in international scientific research and seek leadership in European projects by uniting scientists into larger, more stable research groups.

  • I will not only promote participation in the competitive scientific landscape but also assist by creating a centre for consulting and preparing scientific project applications.

  • I will support Open Science principles and encourage sharing data and results following the FAIR principles.

  • I will strengthen the PhD school by increasing the number of motivated doctoral and postdoctoral students by creating favourable conditions for their involvement in the international academic community through active participation in projects, international internships, and conferences.

Resilient Infrastructure:
  • I will seek to reinforce the university's digitalization process, implement modern technologies, and enhance IT systems by collaborating with specialists and developing new automated processes.

  • I will initiate investment in renewable energy sources and improve energy efficiency by seeking funding for renewable energy technologies.

  • I will work to improve cybersecurity and ensure data protection by increasing the university's overall resilience to emergencies and investing in security systems.

  • I will initiate the modernization of dormitories and improve student living conditions by collaborating with social partner organizations to raise funds to construct a new modern dormitory and renovate the existing ones.

  • I will establish a University Endowment Fund to ensure the university's long-term financial sustainability.

  • I will initiate creative, sustainable, and innovative projects to promote the growth and prosperity of the Academy of Agriculture and the Academy of Education in Vilnius.

My 25 years of experience in academic and key management positions at VMU, as well as my national and international activities as an expert, allow me to envision what kind of University we need and what kind of University it can become for Kaunas, Lithuania, and the world.

I believe that as a leader of the University, I will be able to blend intellectual courage with empathy and combine strategic vision with creativity. The university of tomorrow has to embody not only an institution of knowledge transfer but also a catalyst for ideas and progress, grounded on solid principles of commitment to core values—freedom, responsibility, and openness. Leading such an institution, it will be crucial to balance traditional values with the power of innovation to build a community capable of overcoming challenges and unlocking its full potential. This is the path I will take, and I will work tirelessly to implement the goal. I am confident that together, we can achieve this.
